Unemployment Insurance
Surprises are not always pleasant. There are times when the unexpected occurs just when change is not a welcome (and practical) option. Unemployment holds one of the top spots in the list of most unwanted surprises imaginable. It leaves the unfortunate person not only vulnerable to financial difficulties, but can also leave him with limited options within a given time frame. Fortunately, the US government made sure that everyone will be protected against some of life’s uncertainties through various unemployment insurance programs.
Unemployment insurance benefits and programs were developed in 1935, in response to a lot of people suddenly being unemployed because of the Great Depression. From that point on, a number of changes have been made in the general unemployment insurance programs – all designed to assist people who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. Employees must check their eligibility (for example, total amount of wages paid over a given period of time), and should file for benefit claims as soon as the unemployment starts, as any delays might result in decrease/loss in benefits.
It is heartening for employees to be secure in the knowledge that if sudden unemployment comes their way, there are unemployment insurance programs that will cushion their fall. The programs may not be for long term, but more importantly, they will help an unemployed individual to get up and resume life from where he has fallen.
